INTRODUCTION

3.1

This chapter catalogues, on a topic basis, all of the Borough Council's Strategic, Part 1 UDP policies for Doncaster, with the exception of the eight general policies included in the previous chapter. The legislation covering the preparation of UDP's requires that the justification for each of the Part 1 policies be included within Part 2 of the UDP. For this reason, and to aid understanding of the Plan, the Part 1 policies are repeated in the various topic chapters, which together comprise Part 2 of the UDP.

ECONOMY AND EMPLOYMENT

JOB PROTECTION AND CREATION

PROVISION IS MADE FOR A BASIC REQUIREMENT OF AN ADDITIONAL 16,800 DWELLINGS BETWEEN 1986 AND 2003 HOUSING SITES ARE IDENTIFIED TO CATER FOR A WIDE RANGE OF HOUSING IN TERMS OF TYPE, TENURE, SIZE, COST AND LOCATION. SITES IN THE REGENERATION PRIORITY AREAS WILL BE ACTIVELY PROMOTED. SITES IDENTIFIED ON THE EDGE OF URBAN AREAS WILL HAVE REGARD TO THE FORM AND CHARACTER OF THE EXISTING SETTLEMENT, THE SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE, AND TO THE EFFECT ON OTHER REGENERATION POLICIES.

  2. ENDEAVOUR TO MEET THE DEMANDS ON COUNCIL OWNED SITES AS APPROPRIATE;
  3. IN NEW OR REFURBISHED HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS ENCOURAGE DEVELOPERS TO PROVIDE HOUSING, ACCESS AND FACILITIES FOR USE BY PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THE LESS MOBILE;
  4. CONTINUE TO FULFIL ITS RESPONSIBILITIES TOWARDS PROVIDING GYPSY CARAVAN SITES AND FACILITIES;
  5. WORK TOWARDS RELIEVING HOMELESSNESS, INCLUDING THE PROVISION OF TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION, WITH OTHER INTERESTED AGENCIES;
